Design Notes
The 35s CaMV promoter is a strong constitutive promoter in plants, but when reduced to its core, transcription of genes is only permitted under the effects of the binding of a downstream activator. Truncation of the 35s CaMV promoter to its core was therefore performed. The core promoter is here defined as the region of the 35s CaMV promoter between the transcription start site, and the point 15 nucleotides upstream from the TATA box of the promoter.
